What's important to us.
Being confidently humble.
While we have highly accomplished team members, we are the first to acknowledge our many flaws. Life does not follow a linear trajectory and each of us has personal stories about our moments of failure. We strive to be confidently humble and recognize that every one of us serves in a company of heroes.
Communicating openly and directly.
At Deliberate, open and direct communication is key. Everyone on our team is transparent about their intentions, confident in contributing their skills, and comfortable providing genuine and thoughtful feedback to anyone else.
Celebrating diversity.
Behavioral and mental health issues are complex problems that affect people of all backgrounds, and the team at Deliberate reflects that. Our team comprises a range of clinical, technology, data science, and research skills, and hails from across the world, including Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the US. We celebrate and embrace diversity across all forms of identity: the most important thing about working with Deliberate is being comfortable being yourself!
Fostering a safe & meritocratic environment.
We believe our differences in personal and professional experience provide unique perspectives that allow us to find better solutions, more quickly. With those diverse perspectives often comes creative conflict, which we encourage and channel towards finding the best way forward together. To do this effectively, we work tirelessly to foster a safe environment that values merit over position, ensures everyone's opinion can be heard, where everyone can be vulnerable and that builds confidence. As part of this we have set some ground rules about how we interact with each other and undertake joint problem solving, such as "debate the idea, no the person", "there is no monopoly on good ideas", "develop strong opinions that are weakly held", and "disagree and commit". To be an effective member of our team you need to be comfortable with being uncomfortable at times.
Emphasizing privacy and ethics.
The way we work together also extends to the way we conduct business and develop our products. Special emphasis is placed on data privacy and the ethical aspects of our products and services; which are always at the forefront of our thinking. This specifically includes our responsibility in mitigating biases in (medical) AI resulting from unrepresentative and unbalanced training data.
Thriving in ambiguity.
We are pioneers that translate and push the boundaries of science to solve cornerstone problems in behavioral and mental health. Being a pioneer comes with many unknowns, failed experiments, cognitive dissonance, and frequent pivots. Our collective desire to learn and have an outsized impact on the world feeds on this ambiguity and creates a bias towards deliberate action. We celebrate victories, big and small, and remain resilient when facing failures. Be prepared for relentless learning, feeling outside of your comfort zone most of the time, and thinking about the "Dunning-Kruger effect" a lot.
Cultivating your growth.
We understand that deliberate people choose to work on meaningful problems, together with collaborators that help them grow. Team members at Deliberate are passionate about our mission and energized by the challenging problems we're working on. We complement this with a strong emphasis on deliberate efforts that help you develop your best self. Whether that might be your involvement in other functions of the company, or helping you push the state-of-the-art in your field.
Balancing work and life.
As a company born during the COVID pandemic, we understand the impact the pandemic has had on work-life balance and personal wellbeing. We believe that a hybrid working model is foundational to both team and individual performance and success. We are remote-friendly with sufficient time spent in the office to build strong relationships with your colleagues. We have an unlimited PTO policy to enable our team members to optimize work-life balance.
